A Turn of Events

I was reading a good friends Blog and realized I was reading to much into what a Blog is suppose to be. I stated that mines would be a look into the life of an event planner. However, every time I tired to write I didn't like the entry so I would erase it and not post.
The first quarter of the year was not good for CREATORS. By March 2011  I had already completed a baby shower, two adult birthday parties and closing in on one of the biggest weddings with two venues on opposite sides of town with 250 guest. I thought since I had a great year that 2012 would follow suit; however it came in like a lamb.
I was knocked off my high horse; I guess I need a reality check; I had been here before  eight years ago when I decided to quit my job and start my own business. It's funny when you know your worth and try to show others.Oh I still had people inquiring about products and services; no contracts being signed and no deposits being made. My pride was hurt it was effecting my home life big time. See you know me as the owner and chief decorator of this out the box event planning company, but I wear so many more hats. Mom, Wife, daughter, sister, friend, aunt, niece, Birthday Party consultant to one of the oldest science museums in Philadelphia and more...
This took me to a state of depression. So with my down time I decided to redo my price list, get new marketing material, open a twitter account [@CREATORSevents] and promote more on my personal facebook page. I also shifted some of my focus to the scholarship foundation I had started. The C. Pink Scholarship foundation was started to help children who's parents were affected by breast cancer with college expenses. I created a facebook page to get the world out and lots of people showed interest  so I decided to jump right into our first fundraiser that didn't do so well. This only added to the sadness that I was already feeling. Then I remembered a quote "Don't Dream ya Life Live ya Dreams" ~Miasha Colman {www.miasha.com}. This reminded me that I had come a long way and that if I had already made it this far there was no turning back now...........

What a Year!

I find myself reflecting on 2011 as it comes to a close. This year was very eventful from the wedding with 200 guest and two venues; the milestone birthday parties, the countless baby showers, rentals and custom items I have created for my clients. I learned a lot about the business and about myself. I started 2011 with my feet on the ground running booked already up to May. I was busy this is what I had been dreaming of. With every event I had a favorite item that I created.
In February I did a Mardi Gras party the centerpieces were fun as was the event I hope to still be partying as the guest did when I am in my 60's.
May I did  a wedding where the client had a swarovski crystal bouquet hold which set the tone for her special day. From this event I have a couple of favorite items, but the one that was the most challenging were the invitations. I pride myself in custom design items and their invitations were that. I individually glued 12 black mini stones onto 160 invites.
June I had the pleasure of doing a candy land theme baby shower my favorite things where the lollipops and candy pieces I made.
July was the retirement party for a husband and wife. I created 18 custom centerpieces each a different place the couple had traveled to.
While creating these countless events I celebrated a big milestone of my own my 30th Birthday. Sure I planned the party of the year for the Queen of Events herself. It was simple, detailed and so me. My custom centerpieces with images of me throughout the years.
In November I helped an old friend celebrate her 30th also. Her girly themed event was overall fun and using only tulle for decorations made me think deep for creative ways to decorate the hall.
To close out the year I had the pleasure of doing a under the sea theme baby shower. Not only did I pull this event off in three weeks I restored the faith of this client to use an event planner again; after her first one balled on her at the last minute. The back drop for this events cake table was great and fun to do.
My creativity was taken to a whole new level with the countless events and orders I filled in 2011. I can't wait for the new challenges 2012 has in store for me.

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Why I Created this Blog

Events go on everyday; whether it is a birthday party, baby shower, wedding, company function or a family reunion. Event planners are the ones pulling all the small details together to make these events successful. Many people don't think to call an event planner; they have many misconceptions of an event planners duties or they do not think they can afford one. So I started this blog to let people in on the life of an event planner. To let people see that event planners are important in helping their visions become real.  This blog will also feature important tips to help in planning your own special events.  So once a week tune in because I plan to take you on a wild ride. Not only will you learn what event planners do you will also learn how a start up company becomes well known.

Wedding idea: your bridesmaids don’t always have to have bouquets try boutonnieres or corsages instead.
